Between the Lines (lyrics) by Pernille Quigg

In life we find inspiration in many different people. I had a teacher when I was about 13 or 14 years old and I can still hear his voice, as he passionately recited verses of ´Terje Vigen´ to a group of budding teenagers, who wasn´t sure what had hit them. Later he suffered a stroke, which damaged his speech centre and being a man who lived and breathed through words, he must have seen no other way.

There must have been an element of madness
to leave this earth in such a frightful way
His wife and kids were left to spread his ashes
an October morning in a town with sleep still in its eyes

chorus: So bring out the books and listen up sharp
there's a lesson to learn if you read with your heart.

Though at times he flew up in a temper
his passion for the learning it was true
and there's a time I always will remember
when his words of praise fell like rain on parched and desert land

chorus

Always try to read between the lines
there's more than what you see at a first glance
we heard the news and thought he'd lost his mind
but he was lost for words and he used to know them
now silence rides on tender wings

So bring out the books and listen up sharp
there's life and there's death and we each play our part
and there are many shades in a human heart
